What Oils Should we Use?

Babies have incredibly delicate skin so it’s vital that we use gentle, natural
products that will support the skin to maintain a healthy condition. Massage, when done correctly greatly benefits skin condition.

At Wildflower we don’t recommend using any oils at all until the baby is 6 weeks old. Mums can attend classes from 4 weeks but are advised to massage over the baby’s clothes .

From 6 weeks organic sunflower seed oil or fractionated coconut oil is
recommended. This supports the skin’s delicate balance and is extremely
unlikely to cause any reactions. It is also completely safe if the baby gets any in their mouth (during hand or facial massage) It also has no scent, babies enjoy the scent of their mother and this helps the bonding process, strong scents can mask this.

You should suggest to parents that they should pop a tiny bit of oil behind their baby’s ear at the beginning of the first class to test for any reaction or redness.

You may opt to get parents to sign a form to confirm that you have given them guidance regarding the use of oil (this is again covered later in the course) specifically if they choose to bring their own oil.
