My Morning Learning Baby and Child First Aid

As a new parent, one of the most important things you can do is learn first aid for babies & children. Of course, this is a skill you hope to never need to use, but having some confidence that you would know what to do in an emergency is reassuring.

I recently attended a baby first aid course with Kate at Bumps and Bashes held at The Bump and Baby Hideout in Sale and I learned a lot.

The course covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • How to identify and respond to choking
  • How to administer CPR to babies, toddlers and adults
  • How to use a defibrillator
  • The recovery position for babies, toddlers and adults and when to use it
  • How to manage seizures
  • What to do with burns/scalds, head injuries and bleeding wounds
  • Signs for sepsis/meningitis and what to do

The course also covered some less common topics, such as how to treat insect bites and stings and how to deal with allergic reactions.

I found the course to be very informative and helpful. Kate was so knowledgeable and experienced, and she answered all of our questions.

I also appreciated the opportunity to practice my first aid skills on a dummy version of a baby and toddler as well as an adult. We also had a good few laughs along the way, helping us all to feel relaxed and engaged throughout.

I wondered if I might be embarrassed or feel self-conscious when trying out CPR on the dummies, but Kate’s relaxed style of hosting really puts you at ease.

I would highly recommend attending this baby first aid course if you are a new parent or caregiver. It’s one of the best things you can do to keep your baby safe.

Here are some of the benefits of attending a baby first aid course:

  • You will learn how to identify and respond to common baby emergencies.
  • You will gain confidence in your ability to handle a medical emergency.
  • You will learn how to perform CPR and other life-saving techniques.
  • You will learn about the importance of safety and prevention.
  • Oh and there was biscuits and coffee 😉
